The following thoughts of the philosopher Kant on this subject are especially noteworthy:
- due to the belief in the ability to make reflective judgments, in spite of all the random images (phenomena) in our experience, there is a wholeness, a syntheticity in our experience;
- we do not see our experience as a scattered collection of things and events, even the most unknown events do not destroy our experience, we remain confident that we will find a common ground to which it belongs and will occupy its place in the network of our knowledge.
