Heading of “Heart-to-heart talk with scientist”

Our guest is Fuad Aliyev - graduate of Central European University, scholar of Humphrey and Fulbright programs, PhD on economy.

A.Aghayev:

Mr. Aliyev, I am very glad to meet you in the scientific platform. You are wellcome to our Discussion Club.

In one of your work materials you note the debate between ethics and economic benefit as a main problem of business ethics. In general, how does actual the issues about impact of ethics to economic behaviors nowadays?

F.Aliyev:

Mr. Aghayev, thank you for invitation to your Discussion Club. Generally, the last global crisis showed that, current economic systems are wide from morality and ethics. In fact, one of the main reasons of crisis came from ethic issues. So, it is impossible to achieve sustainable development in the global flatness by only thinking on benefits in the economic behaviors and only thinking about “today” by speculative ways, even this formally legal and by ignoring social-ecological impacts of economic relations.

A.Aghayev:

Currently, what is the aim of studying the ethic standards in the institutional levels on the global flatness?

F.Aliyev:

Companies in the international level understand that, there is seriously need for “game rules”. Already, it is not time for “irregular warfare” and also this is negatively impacts to international images of companies. Under the terms of “fierce competition” to have the “poor moral” image leads to comparative shortage. Also here the role of civil society institutes is higher. The social responsibility of the business sector is higher, where the civil society is sustainable.

A.Aghayev:

In one of your research papers you point that, in the majority of post-soviet countries the current ethics crisis is based on the Soviet history. How could you explain that?

F.Aliyev:

It might be explained that, although the Soviet ideology had propogated and agitated humanity values, it was social-political construction that had based on materialism and totalitarism. Destruction of that had led to serious moral vacuum in post-soviet countries. That is, the previous values had been rejected, but new one had not been formed. So, this situation had led to “irregular warfare” condition and all previous values had fallen. The “Godless religion” of Soviet Union could not withstand because of being Godless. So far we are having this torment.

A.Aghayev:

How do you consider the efficiensy of social advertising about ethical topics?

F.Aliyev:

As we pointed that, the role of public organizations and civil society is very high in this field. The word experience shows that, well organized and active social advertising campaigns are very effective. As a leading public segment, this leads to serious quality changes in the business sector.
