The biggest lesson of irrationality – spending of the world for wars (extension)

ü World military expenditure in 2012 is estimated to have reached $1.756 trillion;

ü This is a 0.4% decrease in real terms than in 2011 — the first fall since 1998;

ü The total is still higher than in any year between the end of World War II and 2010;

ü This corresponds to 2.5% of world gross domestic product (GDP), or approximately $249 for each person in the world;

ü The 15 countries with the highest spending account for over 81% of the total;

ü The global financial and economic crisis resulted in many nations cutting back on all sorts of public spending, and yet military spending continued to increase. Only in 2012 was a fall in world military expenditure noted — and it was a small fall.
