Gladiator battles of nowadays or loss of the economy

There is a strange festival: Tomato battle (La Tomatina). The municipality of the Bunol city in Spain, in the province of Valencia each year on the last Wednesday of August organizes a massive tomato battle in Plaza del Pueblo. Every year regarding this festival more than 30 thousand tourists come to the territory of municipality with a population of about 9 thousand. Almost all the cities dyed of tomato juice in this event which participate not only Spanish, also Germans, French and other nations. More than 100 tons of ripe tomatoes stored by the municipality have spread on the squares and the "war" which based at 40s of the last century starts. The municipality earns a large amount of money by selling of broadcasting of the festival to the local television channels.

When I heard about this strange festival at first time the economic aspects of this seriously interested me. What is the most interesting, the economic aspects of the event are contradictory and motley.

Firstly, let’s approach to this issue as a economic project of the municipality. We may think that, also the municipalities in our country may organize this kind of festivals with similar essence, but with different content and this in the one hand will effect to development of tourism and in the other hand will enrich the local budget. In this regard, the festival is worthy of appreciation.

At the same time, on the other hand, wasting of the 10 tons food product is worth noting. At first sight, wasting of food is not economically rational. But using of food products for this festival needs is not wasting directly. People consume that as soul energy instead of body energy. Consuming of 100 tons tomatoes like food can’t satisfy them so highly. Thus, thousands of people rest and enjoy in this show. Unless, the final target of economy is not happiness of people? Hence, using of these food products by this way is not loss for the economy. As a result, people gain the show, country gains tourists, TV channels gain the video materials and the municipality earns revenue. In this regard, the festival is worthy of appreciation too.

Now, let’s change the point of view and let's look at some other point.

Though, the festival is economically normal behavior from the show and earning profits point of view, at the same time this is very close issue with enjoying ability of human soul and changes of that. In essence, this is a gladiator battle of the period of slavery. Still a great show, organizers earning appartunities and victims. Just because of us, this is not so awful as a gladiator battle, here victims are not people, that are tomatoes.

If we thought more deeply, in fact, the biggest victims here are the people who enjoy the show as in gladiator battles. Yes, they lose their enjoy abilities; broadly saying   they lose their tastes, at the end they lose their souls.

No, enjoying in environment, enjoying in events and processes is not condemned.  Of course, the human worthy of enjoy and happy life, instead of humiliation and unhappiness.

However, that satisfaction and the economic resource used for that satisfaction is rational that, it helps for development and perfection of human soul that is only social-economic asset of human. The human enjoys in reading a book and in watching gladiator battles. However, the first one enlarges his soul, but second one reduces. Because of, the first one promotes the life, but other one promotes the aggression. Because of, the first one nourishes, but the other one poisons the soul. Reduce of the soul is the gradual death of humanity. Is there more valuable economic asset than the soul for the human?
